| In the year of Russia's presidency in BRICS, on the eve of the 270th anniversary of Lomonosov Moscow State University, in accordance with the plan of scientific events of the Association of BRICS Research and Education Centers (NECSTT BRICS), the International Scientific and Practical Conference “BRICS in the Era of Global Social Transformations” was held on May 24, 2024 at the Faculty of Global Studies, organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University and its subdivisions and partners: NECSTT BRICS, the Russian Committee of the UNESCO International Program "Management of Social Transformations (BRIDGE)", the Institute of Asian and African Countries of Moscow State University, the UNESCO Department for the Study of Global Problems of Moscow State University. The opening ceremony was held in a mixed format. Rector of MSU, Academician V.A. Sadovnichy opened the conference with a welcome video message. In his speech he emphasized: “Today the BRICS association is the vanguard, the core of the formation of a certain world order based on deep respect, civilizational identity and values of the peoples of all countries, on the desire for equal dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation”. The moderators of the opening ceremony were Prof. Yuri Mazey, Vice-Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Prof. I.V. Ilyin, Dean of the Faculty of Global Studies of Lomonosov Moscow State University. Yuri Alexandrovich noted that the Conference is a platform for discussing modern challenges and opportunities faced by developing countries. Such events contribute to the strengthening of cooperation and exchange of experience among the BRICS countries. During his welcoming speech, Prof. I. V. Ilyin spoke about the almost ten-year prehistory of the Conference “BRICS in the Era of Global Social Transformations”. |
The conference was held in three parts: opening ceremony, plenary session and session. The Conference was an important step towards the BRICS University Rectors' Forum to be held in October 2024. The Conference discussed the international ranking of BRICS universities, as well as the issues of global social transformation in the context of the transition to a new multipolar world order and the role of BRICS in these processes.
The conference brought together leading experts, scholars and practitioners from different countries, creating a unique intellectual space for dialog and joint search for solutions. The reports, discussions and plenary sessions helped to identify key areas of cooperation within the BRICS framework and further define ways of joint actions to effectively respond to the challenges of the modern era. The conference reflected a high level of scientific expertise, analytical thinking and commitment to global cooperation, becoming a significant event for the academic community and practitioners. The participants of the event showed their readiness to play a leading role in the development of international dialog to address the challenges of our time.
